Lucio followed up on my previous post, computing a similar statistics for Italian macro-regions. Similar, since he does not divide real GDP by the population, but since the latter is relatively stable, the differences should be minor.
The impact of the recession on the Italian regional disparities is impressive. Although it might be mitigated by an increased size in the shadow economy?
What would be interesting is the impact of the recession by income quintiles, but data are not readily available or easy to compute.
